FAQs

We begin with a phone consultation to learn more about what is bringing you or your child to therapy, answer any initial questions, and consider whether our practice may be a good fit. If we decide to move forward, the first few sessions are an opportunity to get to know one another, develop a fuller understanding of what has been happening, and begin thinking together about the treatment.
-
Yes. We offer both in-person and virtual psychotherapy for clients located in California. When possible, we often prefer to meet in person, particularly with children, though virtual treatment may also be appropriate depending on the person and circumstances.
-
Sessions are 50 minutes. We typically meet with children, teens, and young adults once or twice weekly, with frequency tailored to each person’s needs and the nature of the work. With children and adolescents, treatment may also include regular parent meetings or parent guidance as part of the therapeutic process.
-
We ask for 48 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or reschedule. Appointments cancelled with less than 48 hours’ notice are charged the full session fee. We understand emergencies happen and will take unexpected circumstances into account.
-
Parents are often an important part of treatment with children and adolescents, though the nature and frequency of parent involvement varies with developmental needs and the reasons for seeking therapy. We may meet with parents separately for guidance and consultation while also protecting the child or teen’s need for privacy within the therapeutic relationship.
-
Yes. We offer parent guidance as part of treatment with children and adolescents, and family sessions when they may be helpful. We can discuss the nature and extent of parent or family work during the initial consultation.

Dinah Farrell, AMFT’s fee is $180 per 50-minute session and Dr. Harris’s fee is $300 per 50-minute session. We are able to offer reduced-fee treatment in a limited number of cases, with the aim of arriving at a fee that is sustainable for both patient and therapist.

We are out-of-network providers and do not bill insurance directly. Many PPO plans offer reimbursement for out-of-network psychotherapy services. You can check your out-of-network coverage here.
If you choose to use out-of-network benefits, you will pay for sessions directly and receive a monthly superbill to submit to your insurance company. Reimbursement, when available, is paid directly to you by your insurer.
We recommend asking your insurance company:
Do I have out-of-network mental health benefits?
What is my deductible, and how much of it have I met?
What percentage or amount is reimbursed for psychotherapy?
Is there a limit on the number of sessions covered each year?
Are telehealth sessions covered?
